Kava gummies: what noble kava does, and how to use it.

The South Pacific's oldest relaxation ritual — in a kiwi-strawberry gummy.

Kava (Piper methysticum) has been used across the South Pacific for more than 3,000 years as a social, ceremonial, and unwind-at-the-end-of-the-day drink. Modern research points to real anxiolytic and muscle-relaxing effects — with an important asterisk: not all kava is equal. Here's what actually matters when you're picking up a bottle.

What kava actually does

Kava's active compounds are kavalactones — a family of six main molecules that interact with GABA receptors, similar in spirit (but not mechanism) to how alcohol produces relaxation. The result is a calm, sociable body-loose feeling without sedation or impaired thinking at reasonable doses.

Clinical trials on standardized kava extracts have shown meaningful reductions in generalized anxiety, and a 2013 Cochrane review concluded kava is superior to placebo for anxiety symptoms.

Why 'noble' kava is the only kava worth taking

Kava cultivars fall into two buckets: noble and tudei. Noble kava is the daily-use variety Pacific Islanders have selected for over millennia — well-tolerated, clean feeling, safe for regular use. Tudei ('two-day') kava is heavier, longer-lasting, and associated with the liver concerns that made headlines in the early 2000s.

Our gummies use a 30% noble kava extract, so each piece delivers 100mg of extract standardized to the noble kavalactone profile. If a product doesn't specify noble, assume it isn't.

Dose and timing

One to two gummies is a typical serving for relaxation or winding down after work. Effects come on in roughly 15–30 minutes and last one to two hours. Take with a small amount of food for best onset.

Kava is best used situationally — before a stressful meeting, in the evening, or in social settings — rather than as a daily supplement. Give yourself a break every few days.

Safety and what to avoid

Do not combine kava with alcohol, benzodiazepines, or other CNS depressants — the effects stack in ways that aren't well characterized. Skip kava if you have liver disease or are taking medications processed heavily by the liver. Not for use during pregnancy or nursing.

Used sensibly, noble kava has a long, well-documented safety record. Used carelessly with alcohol or in tudei form, it doesn't. The format doesn't change the rules.

Common questions

Will kava gummies get me high?
No. Kava produces relaxation and mild sociability, not intoxication or impaired thinking at typical doses. Think 'end-of-day exhale,' not 'edible.'
Can I take kava every day?
It's better used situationally. Regular users typically cycle — a few days on, a few days off — rather than dosing daily.
Can I drink alcohol with kava?
No. Do not combine kava with alcohol or other CNS depressants. The interaction isn't well characterized and increases risk.
How long until I feel it?
Most people feel effects within 15–30 minutes, peaking around the one-hour mark and easing off over the next hour.
